a little q&a

Clients often have several questions about my photography (and that's a good thing), so I thought I'd answer a few of the most common here. Have others? Just shoot me an email at studio@joymariephoto.com!

Q. Where are you located? I can't really tell from your site.

A. I split my time between Nashville and Los Angeles, but I'm on a plane at least once or twice a month flying somewhere to shoot. Because I have photography bases in Nashville, Los Angeles and Seattle, there are no travel charges added to shoots in those cities. I love traveling for weddings, especially if they're out of the country!

Q. What would you say is your style of photography?

A. Definitely fun and edgy. My style is unobtrusive, candid, and spontaneous. I tend to attract clients who are looking for photography that pushes the envelope, and isn't at all traditional. We avoid posed, rigid photography, directing only when it's appropriate. Our goal is to photograph you in an organic way, documenting important moments as part of the overall story.

Q. What if I want something different from what you offer in your packages?

A. Every package that we offer is customizable. If you have special requests, we can put together a customized package for you, even if the scope goes beyond what is generally offered in our package selections. We also offer “coverage only” packages during non-peak season (November - March) and weekdays, that allow you to add a la carte items like prints & albums after the wedding. We even have a way to allow you to include your album as one of your bridal registry gifts.

Q. Do you offer Albums?

A. Absolutely! I personally design every Album, or what I call Fine Art Book, and then have it printed & constructed in Italy. The results are stunning. I especially like the albums we've done with metal covers.

Q. Can you hold a date?

A. Because we often have multiple inquiries and clients booking us online, the only way to hold your requested date is with a 25% non-refundable deposit.

Q. Will we meet with you before the wedding or photo shoot?

A. Yes. In fact, we encourage meeting prior to your wedding day. It's also nice to do an engagement shoot as a way to break the ice, and allow us to get to know each other. Please call our studio to arrange an appointment. If you are unable to meet in person, we are available via conference call, or even via video through iChat. With all other shoots besides weddings, we can either meet prior to the shoot or have a phone conversation.

Q. We want to do an engagement shoot, but what do we wear?

A. I always tell couples that the most important thing is for them to be comfortable. Wear what makes you feel good. I usually encourage bringing multiple outfits just to have a few options. The engagement session should be fun, relaxed and a chance for all of us to get to know each other before the wedding. My only recommendation is to stay away from baggy clothes and overly busy patterns.
